Some comments and explainations by the author about his Icelandic lyrics in the songs Songs on Kveikjur (KSJ01, CD) - Ignitions:

  1. Kveikjur – Ignitions
What you hear might be an old wise indian chanting between the mountains in the wilderness in “old” America, worried about everything that is going on and is about to happen with changing times. This might be his warnings to the people. The heavy beat of drums in the beginning might be his sign and reminder about the mysterious heartbeat of our Mother Earth and the universe.
  2. Landið sem lengi var – The land which so long there was
A tribute to the vulnerable, unspoiled and untouched land, the earth shaped by fire, water, wind and ice for thousands of years and covered so geniusly with its beautiful Flora. A heritage which our decendants must have possibilities to experience with their own eyes and ears in the future.
  3. Einn með sjálfum sér – Alone by oneself
How wonderful it is to take a walk in nature, alone all by oneself, thinking about the things that matters to you and solutions to problems. It might be walking in a green landscape with the scent of flowers or in the sand by the sea. The Allmighty is manifested everywhere with a helping hand. Your empowered wishes are being heard and responded to everywhere you go.
  4. Taktu af skarið – Take action!
It can be hard to start something new, as easy as it is to just think about it, have intentions and make plans for making it so perfect.  But you have to get to it and take action; don’t think or linger any more, just take action and do it!
  5. Hvar verða móar? – Where will the meadow be?
Unreplaceable landscape is not only out in the countryside or in the wilderness; it is also right before your feet where you live, fx in the rural areas of cities. There the original meadow is being so brutally destroyed without people even noticing it, the soil being exchanged for sand and graval when and whereever houses are being built. But the handmade gardens by the houses and homes, even how  beautiful they are, do not possess the same original beauty as the meadow did.
  6. Heim er bezt – Coming again back home is best
It is fun and interesting to travel around in the world and see many big and fancy things, buildings and cities. But afterwards it always feels like coming again back home is best. (The melody was born when I was waiting in the transit area at St. Louis airport on way back home from a months stay in Arizona in 1998).
  7. Að heiman – Away from home
As times goes by the kids leave home for new adventures of life of their own. There is nothing to do about it; that is the going of life. But you have your precious memories about all the little things the family did together. The bright smile of your child you can see so clearly in your mind. With love, joy and pride in mind you think about your moments together looking forward to the next visit.

  8. Bezta óskin – The best wish
Alone I was, never did I get answeres to my sincere desires and prayers. Then on one summerday the luck came my way as we met by coincidence. I found I was yours and what I saw in your eyes was my answere. Since then everything in life has turned the better side up. My best wish was fulfilled when I found you.
  9. Ég sé það nú – I see it now
Now I realise how precious childhood I had back home although I did not see it then. Unaware of it I was gathering experience and insight in the daily games and work. Daydreaming in a hidden place of my own out in the meadow. The countryside and town where I lived and which I then thought of as old-fashioned and lousy place compared to other desireable places far away was really a paradise with its intangible gifts. I did not see it then, but I see it better now.
  10. Ef sérðu – If you see
(I had almost named this song “Healing visions”, which the text is about, but I meant not to be too provocative).
Each verse is about a wounded healing object: your exhausted neighbour, people and nations in distress, wounded Earth and alinated world out of track. Still, if you see the situation in question before you there is something you can do about it, namely at least give it your attention with good thoughts and prayers. That can be a help to those in need. The last two lines in the last verse state that there is unmeasurable help in all those who practise “healing-ism”.
The lyrics in the chorus (vidlag) of the song is an encouragement to make use of visualization:

Imagine everything is good,
as it best can be!
Power(ful)vision with some love,
miracles makes, you see!
”.

    Reflections about miscellaneous matters.
    Contemplations and explanations.

    Vanishing of the fear!
